Kitchen Remodeling Checklist

With Kitchen remodeling, whether done in Madison Wisconsin or anywhere else, one of the major keys in creating a successful project is assessing what you presently have and detailing what you want to change or add.

Below we have listed items and activities to consider when kitchen remodeling. The goal is to be sure each facet of the anticipated use of your kitchen is considered. From there, appropriate plans can be included in the remodel. We have found this simple exercise helps shape the final project, eliminates false starts and saves money for our customers.

Consider the primary uses of the kitchen:

  • Cooking
  • Food Storage
  • Dining
  • Equipment/Utensil Storage
  • Specialized Food Preparation Areas
  • Waste Disposal
  • Laundry
  • Secondary Media Center
  • Message Station
  • Mini-Office
  • Hobby/Craft Center
  • Plants
  • Entertaining
  • Mudroom
  • Traffic Hub

Collect ideas and consider the following to enhance your kitchen remodeling project:

Often times we have clients who have not thought a great deal about their kitchen remodeling project. They focus on a particular situation or item, but do not consider other areas within or adjacent to the kitchen. When the focus is too narrow, there is a risk of the remodeling project being limited. If the project is limited it is more likely the outcome less positive.

Good ways to expand you focus include brainstorming with family members, idea shopping using model homes, going to showrooms, home shows, surfing the internet, referencing magazines, books and catalogs. Consider the following for upgrades or changes in your kitchen remodel.

  • Appliances
  • Cabinets
  • Plumbing fixtures
  • Ceiling treatments
  • Flooring
  • Countertop materials
  • Wall coverings
  • Lighting options
  • Window treatments

When you have outlined many of the changes you intend to make, be sure to have a concise description of your planned kitchen remodel. This very specific description will allow you to get an accurate estimate of the work required and define a solid budget.

If you do not have a solid plan and make changes during the remodeling project, costs will escalate quickly and you will find your budget may not keep pace.
